Susy Sarmiento


Susy Sarmiento was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM, and comes from a family of low-income Mexican immigrant parents. She is currently the Site-Director of the Family Independence Initiative (FII) which is a national non-profit that is changing the resource gap for low-income families by partnering with, learning from, and investing directly in families.  Prior to her work in FII, Susy worked in the higher education sector for 16 years helping underrepresented populations advance in school and help them connect to resources. She has been a guest speaker at various community functions motivating audiences with her personal story. Susy holds a BBA from University of New Mexico and is the first in her family to earn a college degree.
